A Little About Me
Hey, my name is Lauren
Fox, and I am a junior at the University of Texas, majoring in Education. This
web-site is the product of an English class discussing the "New Generation." I
have chosen to analyze the new movie Romeo and Juliet according to media based
stereotypes. I chose Romeo and Juliet because it stars two of my favorite young
actors, Claire Danes and Leonardo DeCaprio, in one of my favorite plays.
I had some mixed feelings about the movie after seeing it. I love the
play and I wasn't sure how I felt about the changes. I was relieved to find out
that the director chose to keep the original dialog, but most of the time I was
completely enthralled with the setting. It was really amazing, but it depicted a
lot of the negative stuff going on today, gangs and drugs to start with. My only
concern is that this is the route we have to take to entertain and appeal to
society. I understand that the original was just as violent for its time, but
should we be promoting change to Shakespeare? Is this the Romeo and Juliet that
young students will relate Shakespeare to? I know that sounds really stuffy, but
as a future teacher these are the things that catch my attention. With all that said I
still have to say that I love this movie. If you have not seen it, where have
you been? Go see it!! Let me know what you think.
